On New Year’s Eve a police officer of Korps Politie Caribisch Nederland (KPCN) displayed a firearm during a dispute in the harbor. Footage of the incident has been widely shared among the community. There are serious concerns within our community about the conduct of the police officers and Royal Marechaussee (KMar) during the incident. These concerns are shared by the relevant authorities.
Consequently, Public Entity Saba is informed that all relevant aspects and circumstances of events on New Year’s Eve are being investigated under responsibility of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (Openbaar Ministerie – OM). In addition, KPCN and KMar have informed Public Entity Saba that internal investigations are being conducted. Based on the findings of the investigations, the OM will decide if criminal prosecution will be instigated.
