On May 2nd, 2024, Blues & Blues Ltd. announced that from May 15th, 2024 increases for the Makana Ferry’s rates would be introduced, with the suggestion of an expanded schedule.
Negotiations for the new Public Service Obligation (PSO) for the Makana Ferry began in November 2023, as the former PSO ended on December 31st, 2023. As the Makana has been operating without a subsidy since January 1st, 2024, the operators of the ferry have taken the decision to enforce the new rates.
The Public Entity Saba acknowledges the importance of affordable rates with the Makana and will continue to work diligently with the different stakeholders to come to a consensus for the new PSO. In the coming days, negotiations will continue with the goal of reaching terms that will be agreeable for all parties involved, ideally before the increase of rates.
